THE THESIS (application only)

Feel free to inquire about THE THESIS (application-only), an advanced option for students who have longer projects in hand and who want personalized advice and edits.

  • Experience: This eight-week or four-session (renewable) program is generally open to students who have completed THE WORKSHOP or who have worked with me in some other capacity before (e.g., student at Iowa Summer Program or at a university). I work with new students on a case-by-case basis, and in some instances may ask you to begin by taking a workshop.

  • Meets roughly semiweekly (every two weeks) for one hour, at a time we mutually agree on. (We can space this out depending on how regularly you are producing work.)

  • The Cohort: Just you and me and the work.

  • Workshops: I’ll review up to 7,000 words of writing (~30 pages double spaced) between each appointment.

  • In-depth edits: I’ll do a close (really, really close) line edit on the first 30 pages of your book-length manuscript or your opening short story. I’ll also offer you three rounds of edits on your query letter (which you can send me after the eight weeks are up) and provide tailored advice about when and how to get an agent. 

  • Pricing: $1,800 per eight-week/four-session block.

MANUSCRIPT REVIEW (application only)

If you have a complete manuscript in hand and want feedback on it all in one go, you may inquire about my availability for MANUSCRIPT REVIEW.

  • Experience: This option is generally open to students who have completed THE WORKSHOP or who have worked with me in some other capacity before (e.g., student at Iowa Summer Program or at a university). I work with new students on a case-by-case basis, and in some instances may ask you to begin by taking a workshop or enrolling in “The Thesis” (above).

  • Meets once for 90 minutes

  • The Cohort: Just you and me and the work

  • Work: I’ll review a manuscript of any length, depending on my availability

  • In-depth edits: I’ll do a close (really, really close) line edit on the first 30 pages of your book-length manuscript or your opening short story. I’ll also offer you three rounds of edits on your query letter (which you can send me after the eight weeks are up) and provide tailored advice about when and how to get an agent. 

  • Pricing: Ten cents per word of submitted manuscript
